If the weather and the beauty of this city weren't enough, San Diego is also a golfer's paradise. More than 90 golf courses in several distinct settings adorn this southern California hot spot. Desert, mountains, oceanfront, wherever you want to play a round of golf, you will find a golf course, and a good one at that. And with more playable days than anywhere else in the United States, it's no wonder Golf Digest has rated San Diego as one of the "Top 50 golf destinations in the world." Torrey Pines is probably the most well known course in the area, hosting the 2008 U.S. Open. This gorgeous course is located about 20 minutes north of downtown San Diego, and is surrounded by mountains to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Because of this weather often becomes a factor in one's game here.

The Buick Invitational makes Torrey Pines its home also every winter. There are two courses, Torrey Pines North and South, both played by PGA professional and you, if you want. Other popular courses here include Riverwalk Golf Course, built out of flat, barren marshland. It now provides a classic golf challenge, with waterfalls, undulating fairways and bent grass greens. You can hop off the airplane at Lindbergh Field and take a 15 minute cab ride right to the course if you like. For a local favorite, try Sycuan Golf Resort. The courses here have been chosen by readers of the san Diego Union-tribune as their favorites for three years running. Here you will find two 18 hole championship courses and a fun 18 hole par 3 course also. Even if your putter disappoints you, rest assured the San Diego weather will not.
